Government has fully settled a US$700 million Eurobond obligation ahead of schedule, in a move the Ministry of Finance says demonstrates the country’s commitment to prudent debt management and macroeconomic stability.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday, July 6, 2026, the payment was completed on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to honour its debt obligations under the Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme.

The ministry disclosed that the settlement comprised US$525.2 million in principal repayments and US$174.8 million in interest payments, bringing the total amount paid to Eurobond holders since January 2025 to US$2.1 billion.

It explained that the payment was executed through the government’s planned financing arrangements, ensuring that the country’s foreign exchange reserves were not subjected to undue pressure.

The ministry noted that the latest settlement significantly reduces Ghana’s outstanding Eurobond debt while reinforcing investor confidence in the economy. It added that the successful repayment reflects the government’s commitment to responsible debt management and maintaining macroeconomic stability.

The statement further assured the public that the Ministry of Finance will continue to implement sound public financial management practices to guarantee the timely servicing of Ghana’s debt obligations.

The ministry also expressed appreciation to the people of Ghana for their patience, support, and confidence throughout the country’s economic recovery efforts.

The early settlement comes as Ghana continues to implement measures aimed at restoring fiscal discipline, improving investor confidence, and strengthening the country’s economic fundamentals following its debt restructuring programme.

The Ministry of Finance reaffirmed its resolve to sustain prudent fiscal management and ensure that Ghana meets its financial commitments while safeguarding long term economic stability.
