Financial Economist and Academic, Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has congratulated Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah on earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Museum and Heritage Studies from the University of Ghana, while stressing that academic qualifications alone do not guarantee electoral success or the presidency.
In a statement following the conferment of the doctorate, Razak Kojo Opoku described Museum and Heritage Studies as an important academic discipline that falls within Tourism Marketing, particularly Cultural Tourism and Cultural Heritage Management.
According to him, obtaining a PhD in the field reflects a high level of expertise and knowledge in tourism marketing and heritage management.
“Museum and Heritage Studies is a subset of Tourism Marketing, specifically Cultural Tourism and Cultural Heritage Management. Therefore, an earned PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies is a fantastic area of marketing knowledge,” he wrote.
The NPP economist also pointed to the title of Dr. Debrah’s doctoral thesis, “Community Heritage and Tourism Development in Kwahu, Ghana,” as evidence of the Chief of Staff’s longstanding interest in promoting tourism and heritage development.
He argued that the research topic aligns closely with the annual Kwahu Business Forum, an initiative championed by Julius Debrah to promote entrepreneurship, investment and economic development in the Kwahu area.
“The PhD thesis/dissertation topic of Samuel Julius Debrah, ‘Community Heritage and Tourism Development in Kwahu, Ghana,’ clearly confirms his strong passion and commitment towards his annually organized event, ‘Kwahu Business Forum.’ Congratulations to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah,” Opoku stated.
Despite praising the academic accomplishment, Razak Kojo Opoku cautioned against interpreting the achievement as a political advantage or a stepping stone to the country’s highest office.
He maintained that while academic credentials may enhance a public official’s profile, Ghanaian voters ultimately make electoral decisions based on broader considerations than educational attainment.
“However, a PhD is not an automatic ticket to the Presidency. Voters care less about the academic achievements of candidates,” he added.
Dr. Julius Debrah was awarded the PhD in Museum and Heritage Studies by the University of Ghana during the School of Graduate Studies congregation held at the university’s Great Hall on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
The latest academic milestone adds to the Chief of Staff’s credentials and has attracted congratulations from supporters and political observers, while also generating discussions about the role of academic qualifications in political leadership.
