The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen of the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a student of the school.

According to the GES, the two suspects have also been arrested and handed over to the Ghana Police Service to assist with investigations into the incident.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the GES said it had received a “disturbing report” concerning the alleged assault and had taken immediate steps to ensure that the matter was investigated.

The Service said preliminary information indicated that the student involved is a special needs student who is on medication.

According to the preliminary account, the student suffered a relapse on the day of the alleged incident and required medical attention. It was during this period that the alleged sexual assault reportedly occurred.

The GES did not disclose further details about the alleged incident or the identities of the individuals involved, citing ongoing investigations.

As part of the immediate measures taken by the Service, the two watchmen were arrested and subsequently handed over to the Police for further investigation.

The GES has also interdicted both individuals with immediate effect.

The Service said a thorough investigation is currently underway and that the appropriate sanctions would be applied depending on the outcome of the process.

“Based on the outcome of the investigations, Management will apply the appropriate sanctions in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana,” the statement said.

The GES has meanwhile issued a strong warning to all personnel to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ensure that students are protected at all times.

Management stressed that the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students remain a priority and that it would not tolerate conduct that compromises those principles.

The Service also assured parents, guardians and the general public that the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved.

The Police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and determine the appropriate legal action against any person found culpable.

The GES has not indicated when the investigation is expected to be completed.
