The Kessben Group of Companies has officially confirmed the death of its President, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Lawyer Stephen Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben.
According to a statement issued by the management of the company on Thursday, August 20, 2026, Lawyer Boateng passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Kumasi after a short period of illness.
The announcement brings to an end the life of one of Ghana’s notable entrepreneurs and media personalities, whose business interests spanned several sectors of the economy.
In the statement, management of the Kessben Group described his death as a “tragic loss” and extended its condolences to his family, church, members of the legal fraternity and his wider network of associates.
“The entire group mourns this tragic loss and we extend our deepest condolence to his family, church, legal fraternity and wider social associates during this time of sorrow,” the statement said.
Lawyer Stephen Boateng was the founder and head of the Kessben Group of Companies, a diversified business conglomerate with interests in media, hospitality, transportation-related services, education, healthcare, insurance and logistics.
The group comprises Kessben Media, Kessben Travel and Tours Limited, Fosuah Hotel Limited, Kessben Driving School Limited, Kessben Shipping and Freight Forwarding Limited, Aseda Clinic Limited, Transit World Limited, Aseda Insurance Brokerage Limited and Kessben University College.
Through these ventures, Kessben established a significant business presence, particularly in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region.
His name was also strongly associated with Kessben Media, which became one of the recognised media brands in the country and contributed to the growth of Ghana’s private broadcasting industry.
Beyond the media sector, his investments in education, hospitality, healthcare, travel and logistics reflected his broader entrepreneurial interests.
The Kessben Group said further information on arrangements for the one-week observation and the final funeral rites would be communicated when details become available.
The family has meanwhile appealed to the public and sympathisers to respect its privacy and allow members to mourn the loss in solemnity.
According to the statement, the family will subsequently announce the dates on which members of the public will be able to visit and offer their condolences in person.
A book of condolence is scheduled to be opened at the late businessman’s residence at Denyame in Kumasi from 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026.
The announcement is expected to trigger an outpouring of condolences from colleagues in the business community, media industry, legal profession, political circles, religious organisations and members of the public who interacted with the late entrepreneur during his lifetime.

Lawyer Stephen Boateng’s death comes as a major loss to the Kessben Group, whose various companies have operated across multiple sectors under his leadership.
