The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held a send-off parade for eight retiring Generals at the forecourt of the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp on Friday, September 25, 2026.
The parade was held to honour the officers for their exemplary leadership, professionalism and invaluable contributions to the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation.
The retiring Generals comprised seven Army officers and one Air Force officer. They were Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Selassie Gagakuma, Brig Gen Michael Kwadwo Opoku, Brig Gen Augustine Asiedu, Brig Gen Kweku Dankwa Hagan, Brig Gen Omari John Ampadu, Air Commodore Mathias Awuah, Brig Gen Albert Yaw Assiamah and Brig Gen Andrews Seth Mensah Attoh.
In his welcome address, the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai, congratulated the retiring Generals and commended them for their service. He urged them to move into the next chapter of their lives with pride.
The Guest of Honour, former Chief of the Defence Staff and Member of the Council of State, Air Marshal Michael Samson-Oje (Rtd), also acknowledged the retiring Generals for their dedicated service to the nation.
He highlighted the commitment, professionalism and dedication they demonstrated in operational readiness, command responsibilities and the mentoring of personnel across various formations and units.
Air Marshal Samson-Oje noted that the officers had represented Ghana in several international peace support operations across Africa and beyond.
According to him, the retiring Generals had served in countries including Lebanon, Chad, Liberia, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire and South Sudan, among others, contributing to international efforts to promote peace and stability.
He expressed confidence that the legacies of the retiring officers would continue to inspire personnel of the GAF and contribute to the sustained growth of the institution.
Air Marshal Samson-Oje also commended the Military High Command for instituting the send-off initiative, noting that future generations would be inspired to emulate the gesture.
The retiring Generals were presented with a gift of an undisclosed amount from the Commander-in-Chief of the GAF and President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, in recognition of their loyalty and sacrifices to the colours.
They also received citations from the GAF, sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer of Omnigroup of Companies Africa, Michael Zormelo, who additionally donated GH¢20,000 to each of the retiring Generals.
The Generals further received a special sponsorship package from the Chief Executive Officer of Imperial Homes, Francis Biney, which included an 86-inch television set.
They also received assorted food items from the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SDTM Ghana Limited, Nada Dib.
In recognition of their exceptional leadership qualities and service, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, on behalf of the GAF, presented the retiring Generals with citations and plaques of honour, commending their remarkable contributions to the Service and their dedication in the line of duty.
Speaking on behalf of the retiring Generals, Brig Gen Augustine Asiedu expressed gratitude to the GAF for the confidence reposed in them throughout their careers.
He congratulated their successors and expressed confidence in their ability to support the GAF to achieve greater heights of excellence.
The retiring Generals also expressed appreciation to the Military High Command for its support and sacrifices, which contributed to their achievements.
They urged personnel of the GAF to uphold the values of loyalty, sacrifice, team spirit, professionalism and unwavering commitment as they continue to serve the nation.
Present at the ceremony were the Service Chiefs, Chief Staff Officers, Director-Generals at General Headquarters and other senior officers.
