Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency, reversing her earlier decision to pursue opportunities beyond the area.

In a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, the former legislator said her decision followed considerable reflection, consultations and engagements with party leadership and executives.

She indicated that she would present herself for consideration as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.

“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the Principles and Values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency,” she stated.

The announcement marks a change in her earlier position, in which she had indicated an intention to explore opportunities beyond Dome-Kwabenya.

Explaining the reversal, Ms Safo said further reflection had reinforced her belief that representing the constituency in Parliament remained a significant responsibility.

“However, upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate, that, there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in parliament,” she said.

Ms Safo said her decision was driven by her longstanding relationship with the people of Dome-Kwabenya and her conviction that she still had more to contribute to the constituency’s development.

She described her relationship with residents as one built over the years through shared experiences, dedicated service and a common aspiration to improve living conditions in the constituency.

According to her, Dome-Kwabenya remains one of Ghana’s fastest-growing constituencies, presenting significant development opportunities alongside considerable challenges.

She noted that during her 12 years of service as Member of Parliament, she worked with residents, party members, community and religious leaders, and other stakeholders to address some of the constituency’s developmental needs.

Although she acknowledged that more work remained to be done, the former legislator pledged to build on what she described as the progress achieved during her time in office.

“While much remains to be done, I remain committed to building on the progress we made together and work tirelessly towards a better future for Dome-Kwabenya,” she stated.

In making her case for another opportunity to represent the constituency, Ms Safo highlighted the NPP’s electoral performance in Dome-Kwabenya during previous elections.

She recalled that when she was elected the party’s parliamentary candidate in 2012, the votes inherited by the party were approximately 35,000.

According to her, the party secured 63,373 votes in the 2012 election, with the figure increasing to 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.

Ms Safo attributed the electoral gains to the collective efforts of party members, supporters and constituents who worked towards a common objective.

She stressed that the achievements should not be credited to her alone, but should be seen as the outcome of the commitment and sacrifices of the wider party and community.

“These achievements are not mine alone. They reflect the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of every party member, supporter and constituent who believed in our shared vision for Dome-Kwabenya,” she said.

The figures cited in her statement form part of her appeal to party members as she seeks another opportunity to lead the NPP in the constituency.

Ms Safo also emphasised the importance of unity within the NPP, arguing that the party’s strength depended on shared values and the willingness of members to work together towards common goals.

She called on party members, stakeholders and constituents to engage with her openly and respectfully as they considered the future leadership and development priorities of Dome-Kwabenya.

Her stated priorities include creating opportunities for young people, supporting families and ensuring that the concerns of ordinary residents receive adequate attention.

She said she hoped to continue working alongside constituents to build a community where young people could realise their potential and families could thrive.

“I firmly believe, that the strength of our party lies in our unity, our shared values, and our collective willingness to work together in pursuit of our common purpose,” she stated.

Her appeal for unity comes as she prepares to seek the party’s endorsement in the upcoming parliamentary selection process, although the NPP is yet to announce the timetable and guidelines for the primaries, according to her statement.

Concluding her statement, Ms Safo reaffirmed her attachment to the constituency and her determination to continue serving its people.

She described Dome-Kwabenya as her home and said her commitment to its residents remained unchanged.

“Dome-Kwabenya is home. It has always been home. My commitment to its people remains unwavering, and my resolve to serve remains steadfast,” she said.

Her declaration sets the stage for her bid to return as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in Dome-Kwabenya, with the party’s forthcoming primaries expected to determine who will represent it in the constituency in the next parliamentary election.
