The newly enstooled Guantoahene of Kitase-Akuapem in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region, Nana Kwame Adjei II, also known as Nana Adjei Sika-Pa, has called on traditional leaders and residents to prioritise peace, unity and collective responsibility as essential foundations for community development.

He has urged the Mpeduase-Kitase Traditional Council and residents of Kitase to set aside personal interests, strengthen cooperation and embrace community-driven initiatives to accelerate development.

Nana Adjei Sika-Pa made the appeal after his enstoolment as Guantoahene on Wednesday, October 22, 2026, during activities marking the 200th anniversary of the Odwira Festival in Kitase.

According to him, peace and unity among the people are critical not only to the progress of Kitase but also to the broader development and security of Akuapem and the country.

He pledged to adopt an inclusive leadership approach that would bring traditional authorities and community members together to pursue a common development agenda.

“I am very happy that today I have been elevated and enstooled as Guantoahene of Kitase-Akuapem. I promise to lead and serve the Mpeduase-Kitase Traditional Council with dignity and honesty. My priority is to unite nananom and the residents to ensure development and progress,” he said.

He acknowledged that achieving the community’s development aspirations would require the collective efforts of traditional leaders, residents and other stakeholders.

“I appeal for your full support because my strength alone cannot achieve this. We all need to put our strengths together to be a formidable people, striving for development,” he added.

The new Guantoahene urged residents to abandon self-centred attitudes and embrace a shared sense of responsibility towards the development of Kitase.

He stressed that the community could make meaningful progress if its people work together to address local challenges, improve security and support self-help projects.

Nana Adjei Sika-Pa maintained that unity among traditional leaders and residents would create an enabling environment for development initiatives and strengthen the community’s ability to attract investment and government support.

“A strong Kitase means a stronger Akuapem,” he emphasised, underscoring the importance of the community’s development to the wider traditional area.

He also expressed confidence that his experience in traditional leadership, coupled with the guidance and support of his fellow chiefs, would help him discharge his new responsibilities effectively.

Before his elevation, Nana Kwame Adjei II served as Kitase Mmrantehene for 15 years, a period during which he gained experience in traditional leadership and community affairs.

His enstoolment as Guantoahene marks a new chapter in his service to the Mpeduase-Kitase Traditional Council.

He expressed optimism that the knowledge acquired over the years, together with the counsel of fellow traditional leaders, would guide him in promoting peace, unity and development in his new role.

His appeal for cooperation comes as the community marks 200 years of the Odwira Festival, an important traditional occasion that provides an opportunity to celebrate heritage and reflect on the future of Kitase.

Beyond his call for peace and unity, Nana Adjei Sika-Pa appealed to the government to prioritise Kitase in the allocation of major infrastructure projects, particularly in education and road construction.

He expressed concern that despite Kitase’s strategic location and the presence of prominent individuals in the community, the area continues to lag behind in terms of infrastructure development.

He called for the construction of school facilities and improvements to the road network to support residents and enhance the community’s development prospects.

Particular attention, he said, should be given to the Kitase-Gyankama road, which serves as an alternative route for motorists seeking to avoid traffic congestion in the area.

According to him, the poor condition of the road discourages motorists from using it, forcing many to remain on congested routes even when the alternative could offer relief if properly developed.

“Kitase is the gateway to Akuapem. We have prominent people in society living with us, but we are lagging behind in terms of development,” he said.

He pointed to the persistent traffic congestion around Kitase and argued that rehabilitating the Kitase-Gyankama road could help ease the situation by providing motorists with a more convenient alternative.

Nana Adjei Sika-Pa therefore urged the government and relevant authorities to consider the road’s strategic importance and prioritise its improvement as part of efforts to enhance transportation and promote development in the area.

The newly enstooled Guantoahene’s message combined a call for internal unity with an appeal for external support to address the community’s infrastructure needs.

While encouraging residents to take greater responsibility for local development through cooperation and self-help initiatives, he maintained that government investment in essential infrastructure would also be necessary to improve living conditions and unlock Kitase’s potential.

He called on traditional leaders, residents, opinion leaders and other stakeholders to rally behind a common vision for the community.

Nana Adjei Sika-Pa expressed hope that a united approach would help strengthen the traditional council, improve the welfare of residents and position Kitase to make a greater contribution to the development of Akuapem and Ghana as a whole.
