The Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the reported abuse involving the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High School (SHS), insisting that the girls involved deserve justice and protection.

Nana B has urged the President to demonstrate leadership and ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated, warning against any attempt to shield the suspect because of his alleged political affiliation with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a statement shared on the social media, the NPP executive appealed to President Mahama to consider the incident from the perspective of a father, drawing a comparison with the protection he would expect for his own daughter, Farida.

“Mr President, you are a father, and you have a beautiful daughter, Farida. Imagine how you would feel if your own daughter were subjected to such abuse by someone entrusted with the responsibility of protecting and guiding young people,” he stated.

He described the reported incident as deeply disturbing, arguing that the position of trust occupied by a school head makes allegations of abuse involving such an official particularly concerning.

Nana B insisted that the suspect’s alleged membership of the NDC should not influence the handling of the case or serve as grounds for preferential treatment.

He called on President Mahama to publicly address the matter and ensure that the appropriate state institutions discharge their responsibilities without political interference.

According to him, the failure to act decisively could undermine public confidence in the government’s commitment to protecting children and holding public officials accountable.

“It is very sad that under your watch, all criminal and illegal activities involving NDC members are treated in this manner. You are setting a very dangerous governance precedent, Mr President,” he alleged.

The NPP Second Vice Chairman also expressed concern about what he described as the apparent silence of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang over the reported incident.

He argued that her position as Ghana’s first female Vice President makes her voice particularly important in matters involving the protection and welfare of girls.

Nana B said the perceived lack of intervention was troubling, especially at a time when advocates of gender equality, women’s representation and affirmative action continue to push for greater protection and opportunities for women and girls.

He questioned why the Vice President had not publicly addressed the matter, insisting that the protection of vulnerable girls should attract attention across political and gender lines.

Nana B further questioned the apparent pace and manner of the police investigation, expressing concern over what he described as possible leniency in the handling of the case.

He called on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) leadership of the Ghana Police Service to demonstrate urgency, professionalism and impartiality in investigating the reported incident.

He specifically appealed to the CID Director-General to ensure that the investigation is conducted thoroughly and that all relevant circumstances surrounding the allegations are established.

“Why does it appear that the suspect is being treated with kid gloves? The police CID leadership must demonstrate urgency, professionalism and a genuine commitment to protecting vulnerable girls,” he said.

Addressing the CID leadership, Nana B urged the head of the department, whom he referred to as the CID Boss, to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

“Madam CID Boss, as a woman and a leader entrusted with upholding the law, the public expects you to take this matter seriously and ensure a thorough investigation,” he added.

The NPP executive maintained that the reported incident should not be allowed to fade from public attention without a proper investigation and accountability.

He stressed that schoolgirls must be able to attend school and pursue their education in an environment where their safety, dignity and rights are protected.

Nana B also called for the voices of the affected girls to be heard and for the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served if wrongdoing is established.

He concluded his appeal by urging President Mahama to extend the same concern and protection he would want for his daughter to every girl in Ghana.

“Mr President, Farida deserves protection, and so does every daughter in Ghana,” he stated.

He ended his statement with a call for justice and accountability, declaring: “Justice for the girls! Protect our children! No special treatment. No cover-up. No silence.”
