In a strategic move to reshape the internal dynamics of the leading opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has officially begun his nationwide tour.
The tour marks the beginning of his bid for the National Chairmanship, centered on the twin themes of “Restoring Hope” and “Arise and Build.”
The tour, which kicked off on Tuesday February 24, is designed to be more than a campaign.
He has described it as a grassroots movement to reconnect the party with its core values and the broader Ghanaian electorate.
Mr. Agyarko has emphasized that his mission is anchored in the party’s tradition of intellectual rigor and democratic stability.
He noted that the NPP currently stands at a crossroads where unity and renewal are no longer optional but essential for future success.
“This campaign is about our shared values and collective responsibility. It is not about personalities, but about the survival and strength of the NPP tradition,” Agyarko stated.
The tour aims to achieve several strategic goals ahead of the party’s internal elections.
Grassroots Engagement:
Meeting with polling station and constituency executives to hear firsthand the challenges facing the party’s base.
Strategic Brainstorming:
Developing a roadmap to rebuild the NPP’s brand and reconnect with disillusioned voters.
Addressing the factions within the party to ensure a united front Mr. Agyarko has called for decorum over discord.
With internal contests often becoming heated, Mr. Agyarko issued a stern appeal for discipline, a trait he described as a defining strength of the NPP.
He has urged his supporters and fellow aspirants to avoid personal attacks and focus on policy-driven ideas.
“Differences in preference should not turn into personal attacks,” he cautioned. “We must demonstrate maturity in both our language and our actions. Our internal contests should strengthen us, not divide us.”
The “Journey of Hope” will see Mr. Agyarko visiting all 16 regions, engaging with regional executives and the “foot soldiers” who form the backbone of the party.
As the race for the National Chairmanship heats up, Agyarko’s message of competence over personality sets a high bar for the upcoming campaign season.
