The race for leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has intensified as the former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, officially declared his intention to contest the General Secretary position.

In a move signaling deep respect for party tradition, Mr. Antwi has visited the residence of former President John Agyekum Kufuor to formally announce his bid and seek the statesman’s counsel and blessings.

Mr. Antwi’s visit to the “Gentle Giant” is part of a broader strategic outreach.

The former Subin lawmaker has been engaging with the NPP’s founding fathers, “Godfathers,” and influential power brokers, those he describes as the custodians of the party’s soul.

His campaign is centered on a “back-to-basics” approach, emphasizing re-engaging with the grassroots and elder statesmen and restoring the administrative efficiency of the party headquarters.

”To lead a party of this magnitude, one must first drink from the well of wisdom offered by those who built it,” a source close to the campaign noted during the visit.

His delegation included several notable party stalwarts, signaling strong internal backing for his candidacy.

The presence of these influential figures suggests that Antwi’s bid is gaining significant momentum among both current and former parliamentarians who are eager for a “rejuvenation” of the party’s administrative wing.

As the NPP prepares for the upcoming executive elections, the General Secretary slot is expected to be one of the most fiercely contested.

With his formal introduction to President Kufuor, Eugene Boakye Antwi has apparently positioned himself as a candidate who blends legislative experience with a deep-seated respect for the party’s hierarchy.
