Kwame Baffoe Agyakum, popularly known as Abronye DC, has retained his position as Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s regional executive elections held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Agyakum secured 201 votes in a closely contested race, giving him another mandate to lead the party’s regional affairs and oversee its organisational activities in the Bono Region.
His re-election comes at a crucial period for the NPP as the party undertakes an internal reorganisation aimed at rebuilding its structures and strengthening its grassroots base following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
As regional chairman, Abronye DC is expected to continue working with the newly elected regional executives, constituency executives and other party stakeholders to coordinate activities, mobilise supporters and improve the party’s organisational strength across the region.
His supporters are expected to regard the outcome as an endorsement of his leadership and contribution to the NPP’s activities in Bono. His continued presence at the regional level also provides the party with leadership continuity as it prepares for future electoral contests.
The regional elections form part of a nationwide exercise by the NPP to renew its regional leadership structures. The elections have attracted considerable attention within the party, with several incumbent executives seeking to retain their positions while challengers attempt to introduce new leadership.
The newly elected executives will be expected to focus on strengthening internal cohesion, improving grassroots mobilisation and rebuilding confidence among party supporters.
Meanwhile, Jeff Konadu Addo has also retained his position as Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP after defeating his challenger in the regional executive elections.
Konadu Addo polled 405 votes to defeat Albert Kwadwo Boa-Agyemang, who obtained 292 votes.
The result gives Konadu Addo another mandate to lead the NPP in the Eastern Region and spearhead efforts to strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the next general election.
His victory is expected to provide continuity in the administration of the party in the region, while also placing renewed responsibility on him and his team to improve mobilisation and consolidate the NPP’s presence at the constituency and branch levels.
Other elected executives in the Eastern Region include Twum Barimah Koranteng, who emerged as First Vice Chairman, and Tony Osei Adjei, who was elected Regional Secretary.
The new regional leadership is expected to work together to address organisational challenges, deepen unity among party members and enhance the NPP’s electoral preparedness.
The elections across the regions are part of the NPP’s broader internal reorganisation as the opposition party seeks to reposition itself and strengthen its structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
With incumbent chairmen such as Abronye DC in Bono and Jeff Konadu Addo in the Eastern Region securing fresh mandates, attention will now turn to how the newly elected executives translate their victories into stronger grassroots organisation, internal cohesion and improved electoral performance.
