The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has publicly expressed pride in his daughter’s entrepreneurial initiative, while using the moment to inspire young people across Ghana to embrace self-reliance and innovation.
In a heartfelt social media post that initially sparked curiosity among his followers, the lawmaker addressed speculation about unusual content on his pages, with some questioning whether his accounts had been compromised or repurposed for commercial activity.
Clarifying the situation, Afenyo-Markin revealed that the posts were intentional and deeply personal.
According to him, they were meant to support his daughter, Dillys, a law student who independently launched her own business venture without his prior knowledge.
He recounted how Dillys, during a vacation in Ghana, took the initiative to register her business with the Registrar General’s Department, opened a bank account, and began operations using her own savings.
The revelation, he said, came as a surprise when his wife, Mrs. Dianne Frimpongmaa Afenyo-Markin, brought the matter to his attention.
“I paused and said, wow,” he noted, expressing admiration for his daughter’s determination and independence.
The MP emphasized the importance of parental encouragement, particularly during the formative teenage and early adult years.
He stressed that supporting young people in their ambitions no matter how small can build confidence and foster long-term success.
Highlighting Dillys’ dual path as both a budding lawyer and entrepreneur, Afenyo-Markin noted that such versatility should be celebrated.
He added that her legal education could ultimately complement her business pursuits.
“As a parent, I should be her biggest fan and cheerleader,” he said, explaining that his decision to promote her business on his platform was a deliberate show of support.
Beyond his personal story, the Minority Leader used the opportunity to call on Ghanaian youth to explore entrepreneurship, urging them to identify opportunities, start small, and gradually build sustainable ventures.
“I encourage the youth to be entrepreneurial, build your own capacity and create your own path,” he advised.
