The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Agona East constituency of the Central Region has threatened legal action against Paul Adom-Otchere, host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, over what they describe as false accusations against their Member of Parliament, Hon. Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr.
The controversy stems from recent claims made by Mr. Adom-Otchere, suggesting that the MP was the “mastermind” behind the transfer of the Headmistress of Swedru Secondary School.
According to the broadcaster, the transfer was politically motivated because the Headmistress allegedly failed to comply with instructions from the MP.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s constituency office in Agona Kwanyako, Constituency Organizer Malik Idriisu debunked these claims.
He stated that the MP played no role in the administrative decisions of the Ghana Education Service regarding staff transfers.
”The party is demanding an immediate apology and a full retraction of these baseless accusations against our MP,” Idriisu stated.
He further issued a 24-hour ultimatum, noting that the party is prepared to take legal action if Mr. Adom-Otchere fails to comply.
Echoing the Organizer’s sentiments, the Constituency Communications Officer, Mutala Mohammed, described the allegations as “empty and unfounded.”
He emphasized that the claims were an attempt to tarnish the MP’s reputation and mislead the public.
Mohammed reiterated that the party would not hesitate to involve their legal team should the broadcaster fail to apologize to both the MP and the constituents of Agona East within the stipulated timeframe.
