The Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda and former Deputy Minister of Health, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has shared a personal reflection on the importance of regular Bible study, drawing inspiration from a recent message delivered by a Methodist Bishop.

In a Facebook post, the lawmaker referenced the Second Epistle to Timothy, particularly Chapter 3, Verse 16, which states that all scripture is “God-breathed.”

According to him, a sermon by Rt. Rev. Isaac Kwame Boateng, Bishop of the Akyem Oda Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, offered a deeper interpretation of the verse that has since reshaped his understanding.

Hon. Acquah explained that while the scripture is widely known among Christians, the bishop’s teaching highlighted a more profound meaning—equating God’s breath to a source of empowerment in everyday life.

He noted that if the Word of God is synonymous with God’s breath, then engaging with the Bible regularly becomes essential for spiritual strength and guidance.

Drawing a personal parallel, the MP recalled the discipline of daily Bible reading during his Scripture Union (SU) days, suggesting that such commitment can “increase the breath of God” in one’s life.

He likened this spiritual nourishment to oxygen, describing it as vital for navigating life’s challenges.

”Though as familiar as this scripture is, I have come to understand it differently. God’s breath is our enablement in all things and so if the Word of God is synonymous with the breath of God, then we don’t need to stay away from the Bible.”

”If we can read our Bible daily like we did during our SU days, then we can increase the breath of God—the oxygen we need in life,” the former deputy minister reiterated.

He therefore encouraged Christians to cultivate the habit of reading the Bible daily, emphasizing that consistent engagement with scripture can provide the strength and clarity needed in both personal and public life.

The reflection has since sparked conversations among followers on social media, with many agreeing on the importance of returning to foundational Christian practices.
