The Member of Parliament for the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, Nicholas Amankwah, has donated 3,200 mathematical sets to candidates preparing for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), reaffirming his commitment to improving education in the area.
The donation, which has become an annual initiative, is part of the MP’s efforts to promote academic excellence and ensure that all candidates are adequately equipped for their examinations.
Mr. Amankwah, popularly known as “Home Boy,” noted that mathematical sets are essential tools for BECE candidates, particularly for subjects such as Mathematics and Technical Drawing.
He explained that the intervention is aimed at eliminating any disadvantage faced by students who may lack the necessary learning materials.
He further indicated that the gesture was motivated by the financial challenges some families face, which may make it difficult for them to provide such items for their wards.
In addition to the donation, the MP pledged a full scholarship package for the best-performing student to pursue tertiary education, a move he said is intended to motivate candidates to excel in their examinations.
According to statistics from the Municipal Education Directorate, a total of 3,167 candidates from 127 schools in the Amenfi East Municipality are expected to sit for the 2026 BECE at 14 examination centres.
This figure comprises 1,619 females and 1,548 males from 47 private and 80 public schools.
On Monday May 4, 2026, Mr. Amankwah visited some examination centres across the municipality to mark the commencement of the exams.
He made a stop at Amenfiman Senior High School, where he encouraged candidates and wished them success.
He also commended teachers and invigilators for their dedication and professionalism, highlighting their vital role in ensuring a smooth and credible examination process.
The MP urged candidates to remain calm, focused, and confident throughout the examination period, describing the BECE as a crucial milestone in their academic journey.
He further cautioned them to adhere strictly to examination regulations, avoid malpractice, and reject any form of leaked questions or unauthorised assistance.
