Former Vice President and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, joined leading figures of the party in Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region to commiserate with the family of the late Maxwell Kofi Anti, a former personal aide to the Member of Parliament for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah.

The family announced that the final funeral rites for the late Maxwell Kofi Anti will take place from Friday August 14 to Sunday August 16, 2026, in Akyem Oda.
Maxwell Kofi Anti reportedly lost his life on Saturday, May 16, following a fatal road accident along the Oda–Oda Nkwanta stretch.

The deceased was travelling with two other NPP members under urgent circumstances to deliver a letter of injunction intended to halt polling station executive elections at Oda Nkwanta amid disputes surrounding the conduct of the electoral process.
Reports indicate that the vehicle carrying the three party members was involved in a serious crash, leaving Kofi Anti critically injured.
He was rushed to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The two other occupants of the vehicle survived the accident and are currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.
The death of Maxwell Kofi Anti has been widely mourned within the NPP, particularly in the Akyem Oda Constituency, where he was known for his active involvement in party affairs and close working relationship with the constituency’s Member of Parliament.
