The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Aspirant for Gomoa West Constituency in the Central Region, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has cut sod for the construction of a new health centre at Gomoa Simbrofo.
The project, according to Captain Smart, is part of his broader vision to improve healthcare delivery and ensure that residents of Gomoa West have access to quality medical services within their communities.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the media personality and politician said access to healthcare is a fundamental right that should not be influenced by a person’s geographical location.
He noted that several communities within the Gomoa West Constituency have over the years faced challenges due to inadequate health facilities, compelling residents, particularly pregnant women, children, and emergency patients, to travel long distances before receiving medical attention.
“Access to good healthcare is a basic right and should not be determined by where someone lives,” Captain Smart said.
He explained that the construction of the facility represents a major step towards addressing the healthcare needs of Gomoa Simbrofo and neighbouring communities.
According to him, the health centre, when completed, will provide essential services including maternal care, child welfare programmes, and emergency treatment to help save lives.
“This health centre will provide maternal care, child welfare services, and emergency treatment to save lives in our communities,” he stated.
Captain Smart further indicated that healthcare remains a major component of his “Resetting Agenda” for Gomoa West, adding that similar interventions would be extended to other communities within the constituency as the initiative progresses.
He described the project as the beginning of a new chapter for Gomoa Simbrofo and expressed optimism that it would contribute significantly to improving the wellbeing of residents.
The Benkumhene of Gomoa Simbrofo, Nana Nkum Atta, commended Captain Smart for the initiative, describing the project as a timely intervention and a reflection of committed leadership.
According to the traditional leader, the facility would address a long-standing challenge faced by residents who have had to travel far distances to access healthcare services.
She expressed hope that upon completion, the health centre would serve not only Gomoa Simbrofo but also surrounding communities that require medical attention.
Also speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, the Odikro of Gomoa Otsew and Abakomahene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Kwaah, expressed appreciation to Captain Smart for the intervention.
He described the project as a significant contribution towards improving healthcare delivery in the area and assured that the traditional council would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful completion of the facility.
Nana Kofi Kwaah further pledged the commitment of the traditional authorities to support initiatives aimed at transforming Gomoa West and improving the living conditions of residents.
