Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
In a social media post, Mr Gbande described the NPP members expected to converge in Kumasi as “cocaine consultants,” while alleging that they would spend part of what he described as “stolen money” from the state during their eight years in government.
“The cocaine consultants are gathering in Kumasi. They will spend part of the stolen money from the state during their 8 yrs in government ,” he wrote.
Mr Gbande, however, did not identify any individual in the post and appeared to distance himself from making a direct allegation against a named person.
“I’ve not mentioned any name,” he added.
His comments come ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
About 7,163 delegates drawn from all 16 regions are expected to participate in the conference, where the party will elect new national executives to lead its organisational activities ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The conference is also expected to consider proposed amendments to the NPP’s constitution as part of efforts to reshape aspects of the party’s internal organisation and governance.
The gathering is expected to attract senior party figures, delegates, aspiring and incumbent national executives, as well as other stakeholders as the NPP begins preparations for the next general election.
Mr Gbande’s remarks add a political dimension to the conference, coming at a time when the NPP is seeking to consolidate its internal structures and position itself for the 2028 elections.
His reference to alleged “stolen money” constitutes a political allegation, and he did not provide evidence or identify specific individuals or transactions in the post.
