The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has been granted bail of GH¢10 million by an Accra High Court following his plea of not guilty to criminal charges brought against him by the state.
The court, presided over on Saturday, October 3, 2026, directed that the MP secure the bail with two sureties.
The sureties, identified as the sitting Members of Parliament for Bosome Freho and Effia, Nana Asafo‑Adjei Ayeh and Isaac Yaw Boamah-Nyarko are not required to justify the bail amount.
As part of the conditions for his release, the court also ordered Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah to deposit his passport with the court registry.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, has accused the lawmaker of offences including conspiracy, money laundering and intentionally causing financial loss to the state.
The charges relate to the alleged dissipation of approximately GH¢9.85 million in public funds associated with SIC Life Savings and Loans.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, however, has rejected the allegations and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
His legal team, led by former Attorney-General and private legal practitioner Samuel Atta Akyea, has maintained the MP’s position that he committed no wrongdoing.
Speaking after the court proceedings, the Manhyia South MP reiterated his innocence, saying he had a clear conscience and insisting that the allegations against him must be established through evidence before the court.
He also cautioned against what he described as the use of media platforms to try the case, stressing that the appropriate forum for determining his guilt or innocence is the court.
The MP’s bail application comes after he surrendered himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following developments surrounding a warrant issued for his arrest.
The court has adjourned the matter to October 26, 2026, when Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is expected to return for further proceedings.
