In a strategic move to overhaul road safety and operational efficiency, the Deputy Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has embarked on a high-level working tour of key transport and enforcement agencies.

The visit is part of a broader “Reset Agenda” aimed at addressing the recent surge in road traffic fatalities and streamlining the country’s transport sector.

During her visit to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) headquarters, Hon. Affo-Toffey met with leadership to assess the agency’s current scope of work and identify critical bottlenecks.

Recognizing that efficiency is tied to resources, she assured the Authority of the government’s commitment to solving long-standing hurdles.

”The government will work assiduously to address financial, logistical, and staffing challenges to ensure the NRSA is fully operational and empowered to save lives,” she stated.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the tour was essential for “proffering solutions” rather than just observing, specifically targeting the high rate of accidents that continue to plague the country’s roads.

The MP for Jomoro extended her tour to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, where she was briefed on the upcoming rollout of Traffitech-GH.

Traffitech-GH is an automated, technology-driven enforcement system designed to modernize how traffic laws are upheld.

Key features include automated monitoring via cameras and speed guns installed at intersections and vantage points.

This system will process and transmit real-time data regarding speeding, red-light violations, and unauthorized parking directly to the headquarters.

Crucially, the system aims to minimize direct physical contact between motorists and officers.

Speaking to the media following the inspection, Hon. Affo-Toffey lauded the transparency the new system offers.

She highlighted that by removing the “police-driver interface,” the system eliminates opportunities for on-the-spot negotiations and corruption.

”Traffitech-GH is laudable,” the Minister explained. “It will detect miscreant drivers who over-speed or fail to comply with regulations.

Because the system is automated, police personnel will have no chance to demand or determine fines, the technology does the work.”

The Deputy Minister expressed high optimism that the synergy between the NRSA’s reinforced capacity and the MTTD’s technological advancements will lead to a significant decline in road fatalities.

With the “Reset Agenda” now in motion, the Ministry of Transport is signaling a shift toward data-driven enforcement and robust institutional support to ensure every Ghanaian reaches their destination safely.
