Renowned businessman and philanthropist, Ofori Sarpong, has celebrated his 60th birthday by commissioning a 600-bed ultra-modern dormitory for his alma mater, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) Legon.
The state-of-the-art facility, described as one of the most modern student accommodation blocks in the country, was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by government officials, school authorities, old students, and invited guests.
The new dormitory forms part of Dr Sarpong’s continued commitment to supporting education and improving learning conditions in Ghana.
The project is expected to ease accommodation pressure at PRESEC Legon, which has experienced increasing student enrolment in recent years.
The facility includes spacious sleeping areas, modern sanitary facilities, dedicated study spaces, and enhanced security systems aimed at improving student comfort, safety, and academic life.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr Sarpong said investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to secure the future of Ghana.
He noted that the donation was his way of giving back to the institution that played a key role in shaping his life and career.
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, commended the gesture and urged school authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to guarantee its long-term benefit to students.
School officials expressed gratitude for the donation, describing it as timely and transformative in addressing the school’s infrastructure challenges.
According to them, the growing student population had put significant pressure on existing facilities, making the new dormitory a major relief that would enhance both student welfare and academic performance.
