Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on residents of the Central Region to actively support government and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in advancing the region’s development agenda, stressing that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collective responsibility and citizen participation.
According to her, the government of President John Dramani Mahama has already begun addressing key concerns raised by Ghanaians during the 2024 electioneering campaign, particularly challenges relating to poor road infrastructure, inadequate healthcare facilities and issues within the education sector.
Speaking during the Central Regional leg of the nationwide “Resetting Ghana Tour” on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Professor Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the administration’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises through policies and development projects aimed at directly improving the living conditions of citizens.
She noted that one of the most pressing concerns repeatedly raised by the public during the campaign period was the deplorable state of roads across the country.
The Vice President explained that government has already commenced major road construction and rehabilitation projects under the flagship “Big Push” infrastructure programme to improve transportation networks, facilitate trade and enhance economic activities within communities.
“During our campaign, almost everyone was crying about the roads in the country.
Thankfully, we have all seen the progress that the government is putting in place to ensure that this and other related matters, especially regarding education, health and others are being solved,” she stated.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang further disclosed that government is investing heavily in both the education and health sectors through the expansion of educational infrastructure, elimination of schools under trees, construction and rehabilitation of healthcare facilities and the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare Policy to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare delivery for all citizens.
She emphasized that while government remains committed to accelerating development, meaningful transformation cannot be achieved without the active support and participation of citizens at the community level.
The Vice President therefore urged residents of the Central Region to collaborate closely with their various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies by participating in community development initiatives and supporting programmes focused on sanitation, education, healthcare and local governance.
“I plead with you all, our assemblies have also put in place things they are following. I want to urge all of us to help them. We should not appear to be people who know everything. Everyone should volunteer to push the region to a higher height,” she appealed.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang also called on residents to preserve the long-standing culture of respect, civility and peaceful coexistence for which the Central Region is known.
She expressed concern over the growing use of abusive and inflammatory language in public discourse and urged citizens to promote tolerance, respectful engagement and constructive dialogue in both political and social interactions.
According to her, the values of unity and mutual respect inherited from previous generations must continue to guide the conduct of citizens as government works toward resetting the nation.
“Also, I would like to plead with us all, as a region, we are not known to be people who use filthy words in our communications. Our leaders didn’t teach us that. A good government has come with President Mahama as the leader who is working. Now it is left with you and I,” she added.
The Vice President assured the people of the Central Region that government remains committed to fast-tracking development projects across the region and called for continued public support, unity and collective participation to ensure the successful realization of the “Resetting Ghana” agenda.
