Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as an Honorary Lay Canon of the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.
The installation took place on Passion Sunday the fifth Sunday of Lent at the historic St. Peter Anglican Cathedral, in a ceremony steeped in tradition and spiritual significance.
The move marks a significant transition for the former statesman, pivoting from the highest echelons of political power to a formal role of stewardship within the Church of the Province of West Africa.
The Diocese and Province conferred this honor upon the former president in recognition of his “sterling work in public service and social justice.”
However, this is not merely a symbolic title; as a Lay Canon, Akufo-Addo has been tasked with specific duties across several vital sectors, including supporting the church’s spiritual outreach and community wellness programs.
He will also leverage his experience to enhance the Diocese’s institutional footprint and provide strategic oversight for the church’s sustainable growth.
Addressing the congregation for the first time in his new capacity, the former president reflected on his journey through public life, describing his career as a living testimony to divine grace.
”My experiences and service, throughout my adult life, have been a testimony of God’s love and a vindication of the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

In a solemn vow of service, the former president pledged to lead a life of holiness and dedicated prayer.
He expressed his readiness to join the long succession of lay leaders who have supported the Anglican Communion across generations.
He extended his deepest gratitude to His Lordship Rt. Rev. Felix Odei Annancy and the officiating clergy, signaling his readiness to work closely with the Diocese of Koforidua to further the church’s mission in Ghana and the wider West African Province.
