The second phase of the free registration and renewal exercise for National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region has begun across nine communities.
The first phase, which started on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, was conducted in 17 communities within the municipality and ended on Monday, March 30, 2026.
The second phase commenced on Thursday, May 14, 2026, and is expected to end on Friday, May 29, 2026.
The exercise, being undertaken by the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, is expected to benefit more than 1,500 residents across the municipality.
The first phase recorded over 1,000 residents who either did not have NHIS cards or needed to renew them.
The communities benefiting from the second phase are Tikobo No. 1, Jaway Wharf, Sowdadzem, Elubo, Tikobo No. 2, Ahobre 1 & 2, Takinta, Egbazo, and Abusuazo.
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, the exercise began at Tikobo No. 1, but NHIS officials were unable to attend to all residents who turned up to either register or renew their cards.
The exercise at Tikobo No. 1 is expected to continue on Friday, May 15, 2026, before the team moves to Jaway Wharf on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
On Monday, May 18, 2026, the team will move to Sowdadzem, while Elubo will host the exercise on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Tikobo No. 2 is expected to host the team on Thursday, May 21, while Ahobre 1 & 2, Takinta, Egbazo, and Abusuazo will have their turn on May 22, 28, and 29, 2026.
Explaining why these communities were selected, Madam Affo-Toffey, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Transport, said the towns were unable to benefit from the first phase of the exercise.
She noted that while the first phase recorded over 1,000 beneficiaries, the second phase is expected to attract even more residents, particularly because communities such as Elubo and Jaway Wharf are included.
The MP explained that each community would be allocated two days to ensure all residents without NHIS cards, or those needing renewals, are attended to.
Madam Affo-Toffey further assured residents that a third phase of the exercise would be organised to ensure all residents in the Jomoro Municipality are covered under the NHIS.
