The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the commencement of training for its first batch of recruits for the 2026 intake.
Out of a massive pool of applicants, 2,000 personnel have been selected as the first of four planned training batches.
Selected recruits are instructed to report to their respective selection centers across all 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 09:00 hours to collect their appointment letters and prospectuses.
In a notable move toward reconciliation and support, the GAF has made special provisions for those affected by last year’s tragic stampede at the El-Wak Stadium.
18 personnel who sustained injuries during the incident have been included in this first batch.
Five slots were granted to individuals sponsored by the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede.
Additionally, the Military High Command is considering a special directive for the second batch of training.
This involves facilitating the recruitment of residents from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, who played a heroic role in assisting the military during a helicopter crash rescue operation last year.
The GAF also addressed applicants who were deferred due to health reasons.
Those with curable medical issues are encouraged to seek treatment, as they will be invited for a medical review at a later date at no additional cost.
Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin expressed gratitude to the 16 Regional Administrations for their logistical support.
This year’s recruitment was decentralized to the regional level to bring the process closer to the doorsteps of applicants, following government directives.
”The Military is pleased to indicate that it has a pool of young applicants who scored high marks during the aptitude test and will therefore make selection from the pool for subsequent recruitment exercises beyond this year.”
Unselected applicants are urged to remain calm.
The GAF has confirmed that selection for the remaining three batches is ongoing, and the high-performing “pool” of applicants from the recent aptitude tests will be prioritized for future recruitment.
