The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed as false and groundless reports alleging that former Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, is under investigation for alleged infractions.
General Oppong-Peprah, who previously served as the CDS, is currently Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, the GAF said it had taken notice of a news report circulating about an alleged probe into the former military chief.
The Armed Forces described the publication as a “malicious news item” and emphatically denied that any investigation was being conducted against General Oppong-Peprah.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state emphatically that the story is false and groundless. No such investigation is being undertaken,” the statement said.
The military institution therefore urged the public to disregard the report and refrain from circulating what it described as misinformation.
“All well-meaning citizens are urged to ignore the report and cease the spread of such misinformation,” the statement added.
The clarification was signed by Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The GAF’s statement comes amid growing public interest in reports involving senior security officials and former military commanders.
General Thomas Oppong-Peprah served as Chief of the Defence Staff before his appointment as Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada. His current diplomatic assignment places him outside the operational command structure of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces did not disclose the source of the report it described as false, nor did it provide details about the alleged infractions referenced in the publication.
It, however, maintained that there was no ongoing investigation by the Ghana Armed Forces into the former CDS.
The military consequently appealed to media organisations and members of the public to exercise caution in sharing unverified information that could damage the reputation of individuals or create unnecessary public concern.

The statement was issued for the attention of all media houses and circulated through the Ghana Armed Forces’ official communication channels.
The GAF reaffirmed through the release that the allegations concerning General Oppong-Peprah should not be treated as factual, stressing that no probe into him is being undertaken by the Armed Forces.
