Ghana’s diplomatic presence in Iran has been formally suspended following the successful evacuation of all embassy personnel.
The announcement was made by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who provided updates on the safety of both diplomatic staff and the national women’s football team, the Black Queens.
In a statement released via his official social media channels, it was confirmed that the evacuation was executed without incident.
Despite the volatile atmosphere in the region, all Ghanaian diplomats are reported to be in “high spirits.”
”I am delighted to announce that we have conducted a successful evacuation of all our embassy staff in Iran,” the statement read.
“Ghana’s embassy in Iran is now closed sine die (indefinitely).”
Addressing concerns regarding the Black Queens, who are currently in the region, the minister offered reassurance to fans and families.
Following direct communication with the team’s leadership, it was confirmed that the players and technical staff are secured.
The Ghanaian diplomatic mission in the UAE is currently coordinating support for the team.
Continuous contact is being maintained to ensure their welfare remains uncompromised.
The move comes as a response to the “tempestuous” and “turbulent” climate currently affecting the Middle East.
The government has emphasized that the protection of Ghanaian nationals abroad remains the highest priority of the state’s foreign policy.
Ghanaians residing in the Middle East are encouraged to remain vigilant and maintain contact with the nearest functional diplomatic missions (such as those in the UAE or Qatar) as the situation evolves.
