The Ghana Navy’s elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) is reported to have intercepted a large consignment of suspected Indian hemp during a high-speed operation near Ada on Friday, March 27, 2026.
The operation, which took place at the beach of Goi, South of Sege, resulted in the recovery of 37 sacks containing compressed substances.
Preliminary estimates by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) suggest that each sack holds approximately 70 parcels, totaling over 2,500 individual parcels of the illegal drug.
The bust was the result of a coordinated effort based on “credible intelligence.”
Navy operatives tracked the suspicious canoe through the water, pursuing it as it attempted to make a landing at Goi.
Upon realizing they were being closed in on by the SBS operatives, the perpetrators abandoned the vessel and fled the scene into the surrounding area.
While no arrests were made at the immediate site, the Navy successfully secured the craft and its illicit cargo.
In addition to the 37 sacks of suspected narcotics, authorities seized several items used to facilitate the transport including one outboard motor used to power the craft.
Two gallons of premix fuel and five empty containers and a wooden canoe used for the smuggling attempt.
”The Ghana Navy remains fully committed to safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity and interests,” stated Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Ghana Navy has formally handed over all seized exhibits and the vessel to NACOC for further forensic testing and investigation.
Security agencies are expected to continue their search for the individuals involved in the smuggling attempt.
This operation highlights the ongoing vigilance of the Ghana Armed Forces in patrolling the nation’s coastal borders to deter illegal activities and protect maritime security.
