The Administrator and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, has urged students to remain focused on their education, develop a culture of continuous learning and support their colleagues who may be facing academic challenges.
He made the call when he received a delegation of students from 51 Junior High Schools (JHS) and two Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Nanumba North and Mion Districts of the Northern Region.
The educational visit was organised by Education for Change Ghana as part of efforts to recognise outstanding academic performance, expose young learners to new opportunities and inspire them to pursue higher educational goals.
The delegation was led by the Executive Director of Education for Change Ghana, Mr. Ahmed Abubakai, and included the organisation’s Secretary, Mr. Sualisu Zakaria, and First Aider, Ms. Suraj Shakira.
The students selected for the trip were the best-performing learners from their respective schools. The initiative was designed not only to reward their academic achievements but also to broaden their horizons, expose them to institutions and professionals outside their immediate communities, and motivate them to maintain high standards in their studies.
Welcoming the students to GIFEC, Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer congratulated them on their achievements and encouraged them not to become complacent because of their current academic success.
He urged them to remain disciplined and committed to their studies while continually seeking opportunities to improve their knowledge and skills.
According to him, education is not limited to the classroom, stressing the importance of developing a mindset of lifelong learning in an increasingly changing world.
He further encouraged the students to extend support to classmates and other young people who may be experiencing difficulties with their studies.
Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer noted that academic excellence should also come with a sense of responsibility, teamwork and a willingness to help others succeed.
He emphasised that education remains a critical foundation for both individual advancement and national development.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the education sector and creating opportunities that would enable young people to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
The GIFEC Administrator said exposing students to institutions such as GIFEC could help them better understand the role of technology and electronic communications in national development while encouraging them to consider careers in emerging fields.
As part of his support for the educational initiative, Mr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer presented an undisclosed amount of money to Education for Change Ghana.
He also pledged his continued support for initiatives that promote education, learning and youth development.
The organisers expressed appreciation for the reception and support, noting that initiatives of the kind could play an important role in motivating young people, particularly high-performing students from communities where access to broader educational opportunities may be limited.
The visit also provided the students with an opportunity to learn more about the mandate and activities of GIFEC and to gain a better appreciation of the role of electronic communications and technology in Ghana’s socio-economic development.
For the students, the engagement served as both a recognition of their academic accomplishments and an encouragement to set higher goals for themselves.
The organisers said they hoped the experience would inspire the beneficiaries to remain committed to their education and eventually use the knowledge and opportunities they acquire to contribute positively to their communities and the country at large.
The educational visit therefore served as a platform to celebrate academic excellence, promote continuous learning and encourage young people to see education as a powerful tool for personal transformation and national development.
