The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted five officers of the Customs Division, aiming at safeguarding national revenue and maintaining institutional integrity.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, comes on the heels of an enforcement operation that uncovered irregularities in the handling of transit goods.
The trouble began on February 18, 2026, during a routine enforcement check on a cargo consignment destined for Niger.
While the goods were declared for onward transit, the operation revealed significant “discrepancies” in the documentation and a failure to follow established transit procedures.
Initial assessments by management suggest that the five officers may have been involved in procedural breaches, prompting the GRA to relief them off their posts while a full-scale internal investigation is conducted.
The investigation seeks to establish the full facts behind the documentation errors, determine the level of individual involvement by the interdicted officers and to identify any departures from standard Customs protocols.
The Authority has also noted that additional officers may be summoned to assist with the inquiry as more details emerge.
”This action reflects a commitment to protect national revenue, support the growth of local industries, and promote overall economic development,” the GRA stated in an official press release.
The GRA has signaled that it will not handle the matter lightly and that “appropriate administrative action” will be taken against any staff found culpable, in strict accordance with national laws and internal regulations.
