The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for nurses and allied health professionals who recently secured postings to various districts to report to their assigned places of work.
The Ministry said the new deadline is August 31, 2026, describing the extension as the final notice to all affected health professionals.
The directive is intended to give professionals who have completed the recruitment, interview and screening processes additional time to report to their designated facilities and complete the necessary procedures for their employment and salary processing.
According to the Ministry, professionals who have already reported to their assigned facilities and commenced the processes for mechanisation should continue with the required procedures.
It noted that some of the recruited professionals have already completed the necessary processes and have begun receiving their salaries.
The Ministry of Health has also sought to clarify the recruitment, posting and salary payment procedures following what it described as misleading information circulating about the process.
It explained that recruitment into the health sector follows a structured process designed to ensure that only duly recruited professionals who have assumed duty are entered onto the government payroll.
The process begins when the Ministry of Health receives Financial Clearance from the Ministry of Finance to recruit eligible health professionals.
Following the clearance, the Ministry opens its recruitment portal, allowing eligible applicants to apply for available positions.
Applicants are then required to indicate their preferred districts for posting. They subsequently undergo interviews and screening in their respective districts.
Successful applicants are expected to accept their postings and report to their assigned facilities or duty posts.
Once a professional reports for duty, the facility confirms the individual’s assumption of duty and submits the required documentation to the appropriate agency, including the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) or other relevant agencies.
The Ministry explained that an appointment letter is subsequently generated by the relevant agency.
The appointment letter enables the recruited professional to complete the processes required for salary input.
After the salary input process has been completed, the worker’s salary is validated by the facility before payment is effected through the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
The Ministry stressed that reporting to a facility alone does not automatically result in immediate salary payment, as several administrative and verification procedures must first be completed.
The Ministry said the various stages in the recruitment and payroll process are necessary to protect the integrity of the public payroll and ensure that government resources are paid to genuine workers.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the Ministry stated, every recruited professional is required to go through the prescribed processes before salary payment can be effected.
It explained that the procedures are intended to ensure that the right people are paid and to prevent situations involving payments for work not done or the creation of ghost names on the government payroll.
The Ministry is therefore urging all affected nurses and allied health professionals who have been successfully recruited and posted to take advantage of the extended deadline and report to their assigned duty posts by August 31, 2026.
The deadline, it emphasised, constitutes the final notice for all affected professionals.
Health professionals who have already reported and commenced their mechanisation and salary-processing procedures are expected to continue following up with their respective facilities and agencies to complete the required administrative processes.
