The High Court in Akim Oda has issued an interlocutory injunction restraining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its officials from conducting the Electoral Area Coordinator Elections in the Akyem Swedru Constituency.
The order, granted on Friday, June 5, 2026, follows an ex-parte motion filed by lawyer Theophilus Dzimega Jnr on behalf of four plaintiffs who are challenging aspects of the electoral process.
The plaintiffs, Michael Boateng Agyenim, Dina Nimakoa, Ampomah Frimpong, and Beatrice Bio, all residents of Akyem Swedru, instituted the action against the NPP and several constituency executives and officials, including Yeboah Bosompem, Samuel Acheampong, Felix Amaning, Antwi Baah, Mary Twumasi, Abban Rahim, Emmanuel Akornor, and Hayford Geoffrey Ansah.
According to court documents, the plaintiffs sought an interlocutory injunction to prevent the conduct of the Electoral Area Coordinator Elections pending the determination of the substantive case before the court.
After reviewing the motion, supporting affidavit, exhibits, and statement of case filed on June 4, 2026, the court granted the application as requested.
The order specifically restrains the defendants, their agents, assigns, privies, servants, and any persons acting on their behalf from “conducting, holding, superintending, facilitating, or in any manner participating in or furthering” the Electoral Area Coordinator Elections in the Akyem Swedru Constituency.
The elections were scheduled to take place between Saturday, June 6, 2026, and Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The court further directed that the injunction shall remain in force for a period of ten days pending the final determination of the suit.
The order was issued under the hand and seal of the High Court at Akim Oda and signed by Chief Registrar George Benson Awemih on June 5, 2026.
The ruling effectively puts the planned constituency-level elections on hold, creating uncertainty over the NPP’s internal electoral timetable in the Akyem Swedru Constituency as the legal challenge proceeds.
Neither the NPP nor the defendants named in the suit had publicly responded to the court’s decision at the time of filing this report.
The substantive issues that prompted the legal action are expected to be addressed when the case comes before the court for hearing.
