The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered the deployment of specialized police personnel to the Bono East and Northern Regions following two fatal robbery incidents that occurred on May 2, 2026.
The reinforcement teams, drawn from the Ghana Police Service’s Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU), have been tasked to support ongoing security operations and spearhead a manhunt for the suspects behind the coordinated attacks.
According to police reports, the first incident took place at Sampa, near Jato Zongo in the Atebubu District of the Bono East Region.
Armed assailants stormed a fuel station, fatally shooting two individuals and injuring others before making away with an undisclosed sum of money.
In a separate but related attack, gunmen ambushed a passenger bus near Nasia along the Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway in the Northern Region.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, killing two passengers instantly and leaving several others with gunshot wounds.
The IGP’s directive forms part of heightened efforts to restore calm and enhance security in the affected areas.
Police say armed patrols have been intensified across key routes and communities as investigations continue.
The Police Administration has assured the public that every effort is being made to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“We want to assure the public that the perpetrators will be arrested to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement emphasized.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
