The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has eployed a special reinforcement team, along with armoured vehicles, to the towns of Gushegu and Karaga following recent clashes that have raised security concerns in the area.
The move is aimed at restoring calm and preventing any further escalation of tensions in the affected communities.
According to police sources, the reinforcement team comprises experienced operational officers who will work closely with personnel from the Northern Regional Police Command.
Their mandate includes intensifying patrols, maintaining a strong security presence, and responding swiftly to any emerging threats.
The deployment of armoured vehicles is expected to enhance the operational capacity of the security forces, enabling them to effectively manage potential disturbances and reassure residents of their safety.
Authorities say the increased security presence will not only cover the two towns but also extend to surrounding communities that may be vulnerable to spillover effects from the clashes.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and provide any relevant information that could assist in maintaining peace in the area.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring law and order, stressing that all necessary measures will be taken to protect lives and property.
