The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has issued a scathing critique of the decision to cancel the license of McDan Aviation.
In a recent social media statement, the policy analyst described the move as “dangerously myopic” and called on the responsible authorities to apologize and reverse the decision immediately.
Cudjoe argued that debt is a standard element of both corporate and national operations.
He emphasized that there is a fundamental distinction between a debtor who refuses to pay and one who is actively committed to meeting their obligations.
”Businesses, like countries, owe all the time,” Cudjoe stated.
“It is entirely different if the debtor has either decided not to pay or is unable to pay.”
The IMANI boss expressed concern that destroying an established business over manageable debt especially when the business owner has shown a commitment to settling the arrears sets a perilous precedent for the Ghanaian private sector.
Cudjoe highlighted the point that shutting down a major aviation player hurts the broader economy and investor confidence.
He noted that McDan is clearly committed to fulfilling his financial obligations and urged the officials who sanctioned the “disgraceful” decision to take responsibility.
Cudjoe concluded his statement with a firm demand for the restoration of the license to ensure the survival of the business and the protection of the jobs it supports.
”Please, whoever sanctioned this disgraceful decision should quickly reverse it and apologize immediately,” he added.
