The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West Constituency and Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming sports infrastructure and accelerating development across the constituency.
Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony at Mumford in the Central Region for the construction of a modern football pitch, the MP assured residents that sports development remains a major priority under his leadership.
The project, which is expected to nurture young football talents and promote sporting activities within the district, forms part of a broader initiative aimed at improving opportunities for the youth in Gomoa West.
Addressing chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups and residents gathered at the event, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah emphasized the important role sports play in community development, youth empowerment and healthy living.
According to him, investing in sports infrastructure would not only help discover and develop talents but also keep young people actively engaged and reduce unemployment and social vices within the constituency.
He disclosed that his vision is to construct six modern football pitches across strategic communities in Gomoa West, in addition to building a standard AstroTurf facility to provide quality sporting infrastructure for footballers and other sporting disciplines.
The Deputy Energy Minister explained that the initiative forms part of his broader development agenda focused on creating an enabling environment for the youth to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah further assured the people that his commitment to the constituency extends beyond sports development.
He revealed that plans are underway to improve healthcare delivery in the area through the construction of a hospital for the people of Mumford while efforts are also being made to rehabilitate major roads within the constituency to improve transportation and economic activities.
The MP appealed to residents to continue supporting his leadership and government policies to enable him to fulfill the promises he made during the election campaign.
He pledged to continue championing life-changing projects aimed at improving the welfare of constituents as long as he remains the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West.
Touching on the long-awaited Mumford Landing Beach Project, Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah assured fisherfolk and residents that government remains committed to completing the facility.
According to him, after extensive engagements with the relevant authorities, the project has been captured in the 2027 national budget for continuation and eventual completion.
He expressed optimism that the completion of the landing beach project would significantly boost the local fishing industry, increase fish production and improve the livelihoods of fisherfolk in Mumford and nearby communities.
Also speaking at the event, the Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Kassim, appealed to chiefs and residents to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure the smooth execution of the football pitch project without unnecessary delays.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting development initiatives across the district and pledged to work closely with the Member of Parliament to improve living conditions within the constituency.
The DCE further encouraged residents, especially the youth, to embrace regular sporting activities and physical exercise, stressing that active lifestyles contribute to good health and help prevent non-communicable diseases.
Speaking on behalf of the chiefs and people of Mumford, Safohen Akortey expressed profound appreciation to the Member of Parliament for initiating the football pitch project, describing it as a significant milestone in the development of the community.
He noted that the chiefs and residents were excited about the announcement of the planned sporting infrastructure projects and assured the MP of their full support to ensure their successful completion.
The traditional leader, however, appealed to Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah to expedite work on the ongoing Mumford–Apam road project, facilitate the construction of a CHPS compound and continue bringing more development projects to the area.
Safohen Akortey also assured the MP of the unwavering support of the chiefs and people of Mumford, expressing confidence in his leadership and dedication to the development of the Gomoa West Constituency.
