Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has appealed to the government to urgently undertake reshaping and rehabilitation works on major roads across the constituency to improve transportation and stimulate economic activity.
The MP said the deteriorating condition of several roads connecting communities in the constituency is placing a significant burden on residents, particularly farmers, traders, schoolchildren and people seeking healthcare.
According to her, the situation has become particularly difficult during the rainy season, when some routes become muddy and difficult to navigate, affecting the movement of people and the transportation of agricultural produce.
She therefore called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Department of Feeder Roads to prioritise the affected routes and undertake the necessary reshaping and maintenance works.
“The people of Amenfi Central are hardworking farmers and traders, but our major roads are in a very bad state. I am appealing to government, through the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Department of Feeder Roads, to come to our aid to reshape and secure our roads. When our roads are fixed, our local economy will thrive,” she said.
Beyond the road challenges, Ms Cudjoe also drew attention to inadequate telecommunications coverage in several communities, particularly those located in the more remote parts of the constituency.
She said residents in some villages continue to experience difficulties making phone calls and accessing reliable internet services, a situation she said is increasingly problematic in an era when digital connectivity plays an important role in education, commerce and access to emergency services.
The MP consequently appealed to the government, the Ministry of Communication and telecommunications operators to expand network infrastructure to underserved communities.
“There is no affable network service in many of our villages. In this modern era, communication is key. I am calling on government and the telcos, through the Ministry of Communication, to extend network infrastructure to our underserved communities,” she stated.
She said improved connectivity would not only make communication easier for residents but would also support businesses, students and people who rely on digital services.
While raising concerns over the challenges facing the constituency, Ms Cudjoe assured residents that she would continue to pursue development interventions aimed at improving living conditions.
She said her priorities would continue to include education, healthcare, water and sanitation, employment opportunities and security.
Among the interventions she highlighted are the construction of classroom blocks under the Schools Under Trees Project, development of CHPS compounds, provision of boreholes, extension of electricity to underserved communities and the construction of police facilities.
The MP said she would continue engaging relevant government institutions and other stakeholders to secure additional projects for the constituency.
“I want my people to know that I am with them. I will continue to lobby and bring more social intervention projects to impact lives. Amenfi Central deserves better and together we will make it happen,” she assured.
Residents have welcomed the MP’s advocacy, expressing hope that the government’s relevant agencies will respond to the concerns and address the road and telecommunications challenges.
For communities whose livelihoods depend heavily on farming and trading, improved road infrastructure is expected to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and reduce difficulties associated with accessing markets and essential services.
