President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in London for a significant working visit aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom, attracting investment, and engaging with the Ghanaian diaspora community.
The visit, which runs until June 3, 2026, features a series of high-profile engagements, including a royal audience with King Charles III and a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
The meetings are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral relations, expanding economic opportunities, and exploring areas of mutual interest between the two countries.
President Mahama was received upon arrival by Lord Katz MBE of the Royal Household, Special Representative of the Secretary of State for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), H.E. Gordon Wetherell, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Office and signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit is intended to deepen the long-standing partnership between Ghana and the UK while positioning Ghana as a leading destination for foreign investment.
A key component of the visit is President Mahama’s engagement with Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom.
On Sunday evening, he is scheduled to participate in a diaspora town hall meeting organized by the Ghana High Commission in London, where he is expected to interact directly with members of the Ghanaian community, discuss national development priorities, and address issues of concern to citizens abroad.
The President’s economic agenda will take centre stage on Monday when he officially opens the Ghana-UK Investment Summit at Raffles London.
The summit is designed to attract foreign direct investment into Ghana and create opportunities for collaboration between Ghanaian businesses and British investors.
Government officials believe the summit will showcase Ghana’s economic potential, highlight key investment opportunities across sectors, and strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.
The event is also expected to provide a platform for networking and partnership-building among business leaders, policymakers, and investors.
In a move aimed at demonstrating Ghana’s growing relevance in global financial markets, President Mahama will visit the London Stock Exchange, where he will ring the ceremonial bell to mark the official start of trading.
The symbolic event is expected to underscore Ghana’s commitment to economic reforms, investment promotion, and international financial engagement.
The President’s itinerary also includes a policy address at the renowned Chatham House, where he will share his vision for Ghana’s development and discuss broader issues affecting Africa and the global economy.
Additionally, he will deliver a keynote address at the 12th Africa Debate at the historic Guildhall in London.
The Africa Debate is one of the continent’s leading forums for discussing economic growth, governance, investment, and development challenges, attracting policymakers, business executives, academics, and development partners from across the world.
The London visit is expected to further enhance Ghana’s international profile, strengthen diplomatic and economic partnerships, and support the government’s efforts to mobilize investment for national development.
President Mahama is scheduled to conclude the visit and return to Ghana on June 3, 2026.
