President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod in the coming weeks for the construction of the Accra Convention Centre, a major investment by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed this on his Facebook page while highlighting the government’s plans to expand modern infrastructure and strengthen Ghana’s capacity to host major international conferences and events.
The proposed facility, which will be located at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra, will cover approximately 81,422 square metres and is expected to become one of the country’s major conference and events facilities.
According to Mr Ofosu, the Accra Convention Centre will feature a 3,000-seat main conference hall, alongside a Presidential Hall designed to host high-level meetings.
The facility will also include four large auditoriums and other modern amenities intended to support international conferences, diplomatic engagements, exhibitions and major events.
The project forms part of SSNIT’s latest investment initiatives and is expected to contribute to the development of Ghana’s business, tourism and events sectors.
The planned sod-cutting ceremony by President Mahama will formally signal the commencement of construction of the facility.
