The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has directed the immediate reversal of a controversial decision by management of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to temporarily suspend the employment contracts of all staff following the devastating June 29 floods.
In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations Unit on July 1, 2026, the Ministry said it had taken a “very strong view” of the directive circulated by management of the Centre and instructed that the decision be withdrawn with immediate effect.
According to the Ministry, all staff of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited have been asked to disregard the suspension notice, which management indicated would take effect from July 1 pending what it described as a “comprehensive assessment.”
The Ministry expressed concern over the timing of the directive, particularly as many affected workers are still dealing with the impact of the recent floods that caused widespread destruction in parts of Accra and severely affected the operations of the Digital Centre and businesses operating within the facility.
“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29 floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our Agencies,” the statement stressed.
The development follows a visit by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George (MP) to the Ghana Digital Centres on Tuesday, June 30, to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods.
The inspection reportedly focused on the condition of the facility as well as the impact on businesses and technology firms operating from the premises.
As part of efforts to address the situation, management of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited has been summoned to a meeting at the Ministry on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The meeting is expected to discuss the rationale behind the suspension directive, the extent of flood-related damage to the facility, and measures needed to restore operations while safeguarding the welfare of employees and tenant businesses.
The Ghana Digital Centres Limited serves as a major hub for technology and innovation-driven enterprises in the country, housing startups, digital firms and other businesses within the ICT ecosystem.
The Ministry’s swift intervention is likely to bring relief to workers and businesses that feared uncertainty over jobs and operations in the aftermath of the flooding disaster.
