The Ministry of Health (MoH) has directed the immediate enhancement of security protocols across all public health facilities nationwide, following a baby theft incident at the Mamprobi Polyclinic.
In a press release dated February 18, 2026, the MoH announced the move to restore public confidence and prevent future security breaches.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has instructed the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to enforce strict, 24-hour security measures.
Health facility administrators are required to strengthen internal protocols, review and fortify existing security strategies, and ensure heightened vigilance during all shifts to protect vulnerable patients, particularly in maternity and pediatric wards.
The ministry has also emphasized the installation and consistent functioning of CCTV surveillance systems in all health facilities, viewing it as a critical layer of defense and accountability tool.
The MoH commended the “swift and coordinated response” from the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and the whistleblower who helped address the incident.
“The Ministry reassures the public that the Government remains committed to safeguarding patients and ensuring accountability within the health sector,” the statement read.
The ministry urged the public to remain calm, promising that justice and patient safety are top priorities as investigations continue.
