The Ministry of Health has announced the successful restoration of the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS), assuring the public that the platform is now fully operational following a temporary disruption.
In a press release issued on Friday, November 6, 2026, the Ministry said the system, which is managed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), had been restored and is functioning normally.
DHIMS plays an important role in Ghana’s healthcare administration by supporting the collection, collation and management of health information at the district level. The platform provides a system for managing health-related data to support monitoring, planning and decision-making within the health sector.
The temporary disruption had affected the availability of the system, prompting concerns among stakeholders who rely on it for health information management.
However, the Ministry’s latest announcement is expected to provide reassurance to health sector stakeholders, particularly those involved in district-level health administration and data management.
The Ministry also clarified that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS), which hospitals use to manage patient information and medical records, was not affected by the disruption.
According to the Ministry, GHIMS remained operational throughout the period, meaning hospital-based patient and medical records management continued without interruption from the reported DHIMS downtime.
The clarification is intended to distinguish between the two digital health platforms and address any possible confusion regarding the extent of the disruption across Ghana’s healthcare information management infrastructure.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the period the DHIMS platform was unavailable.

It further reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the country’s digital health systems to improve operational efficiency, information management and healthcare delivery.

The statement was signed by Tony Goodman, Esq., Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, and dated November 6, 2026.
The restoration of DHIMS marks the return of an important digital tool for district-level health information management, while the Ministry’s assurance that GHIMS remained unaffected provides clarity on the continuity of hospital-based patient records management.
