Police have arrested a woman in the Juaboso District for allegedly inflicting a life altering injury on her nine year old daughter.
The suspect, identified as Vivian Anto, was taken into custody following an incident on Friday, April 3, 2026, in Sefwi-Proso.
According to a police situation report, the violence occurred around 9:30 a.m.
It is alleged that Anto used a pair of scissors to sever the right index toe of her daughter, Diana Boakye, reportedly as a “punishment” after the child returned home late.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Kofikrom SDA Hospital.
Medical personnel have confirmed that while the injury to her right foot is severe, the child is currently stable and responding to treatment.
The case was brought to the authorities by Stephen Anto, who retrieved the severed toe and handed it over to the police.
Detective Inspector Mathias Balondon, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that during a hospital visit by investigators, the nine-year-old victim identified her mother as the perpetrator.
Police have photographed the injuries and preserved the severed toe as evidence.
A medical report form has been issued to formalize the clinical findings for the prosecution.
Vivian Anto remains in police custody.
Due to the current Easter break, authorities expect to arraign her before a court once judicial sittings resume.
Police officials have stated that they will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
