The Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Minister of transport Dorcas Afo-Toffey, chose to celebrate her birthday in a meaningful way by extending support to mothers and newborns at the maternity ward of Half Assini Hospital.

The May 4 visit, carried out on her behalf by her representative, John Nyamekeh, was marked by the donation of essential supplies aimed at easing the burden on nursing mothers and supporting healthcare delivery at the facility.

Items presented included baby care products, hygiene materials, and other necessities crucial for maternal and neonatal care.

In a gesture that drew widespread appreciation, the MP also paid the full medical bills of mothers who gave birth at the hospital on her birthday.

The intervention ensured that the beneficiaries could return home without financial strain, turning what is often a stressful period into a moment of relief and joy.

The hospital administration, led by Eunice Naa Tarchie Nartey, received the items on behalf of the facility and expressed gratitude for the timely support.

Staff described the donation as impactful, particularly at a time when many district health facilities continue to grapple with limited resources and rising patient numbers.

Delivering the MP’s message, Mr. Nyamekeh emphasized that childbirth should be a moment of celebration rather than anxiety.

He reaffirmed her commitment to improving maternal healthcare, especially in communities where district hospitals serve as the primary point of care.

The maternity ward at Half Assini Hospital plays a critical role in providing healthcare services to surrounding communities, with midwives and nurses working under increasing pressure.

The MP’s gesture has once again drawn attention to the need for sustained investment in maternal and child health infrastructure.

Beneficiaries, many visibly emotional, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, noting that the unexpected intervention would significantly ease their financial burden.

Hon. Afo-Toffey has reiterated her commitment to advancing healthcare delivery in the Jomoro Constituency, with a continued focus on initiatives that improve outcomes for mothers and children.
