Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and an aspiring National Vice Chairman of the party, has successfully completed a six-day high-level leadership and parliamentary training programme aimed at enhancing legislative effectiveness and democratic governance.
The programme was organized by the NPP’s Leadership in Parliament in collaboration with the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) and Canada’s Laurentian University.
It brought together participants to deepen their understanding of parliamentary processes, public policy development, constituency engagement, and political party organization.
Speaking after the training, Nana B described the experience as both insightful and enriching, noting that the programme provided practical knowledge, strategic perspectives, and analytical tools necessary for effective leadership and governance.
According to him, the initiative was carefully designed to strengthen the capacity of Members of Parliament and political leaders, equipping them with the skills required to navigate contemporary governance challenges while effectively serving their constituents and advancing democratic principles.
Nana B expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Minority Caucus in Parliament for spearheading the initiative.
He particularly commended Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, popularly known as Osahen Afenyo-Markin, as well as Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor-Dompreh, First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu, and Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib for their vision and leadership in making the programme possible.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to the leadership of the Minority Caucus for their insightful, visionary, and forward-looking leadership in organizing this important initiative,” Nana B stated.
He further emphasized the importance of continuous capacity-building programmes for political leaders and lawmakers, arguing that such interventions are critical to improving parliamentary performance and strengthening democratic institutions.
“Programmes such as this are invaluable in strengthening parliamentary effectiveness and deepening democratic governance. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn, engage, and contribute,” he added.
Nana B’s participation in the programme comes at a time when he is positioning himself for a leadership role within the NPP, having declared his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman in the party’s upcoming national executive elections.
Party members believe that his involvement in leadership and governance-focused initiatives reflects a broader effort to enhance his credentials as he seeks to play a greater role in shaping the future direction of the party and contributing to national development.
