National Security operatives have intercepted a cache of a highly dangerous substance known locally as “Madala” and arrested four traders at the Kumasi Central Market.
The substance was being marketed to the public under the false and deadly claim that it can “clean the heart” when ingested.
The operation took place today, February 27, 2026, at the French Line near the Aboabo station.
According to Alhaji Nje Abdallah Umaru, the Regional Deputy National Security Coordinator, the chemical is so corrosive that it immediately melted a plastic takeaway bowl during a field demonstration.
Following intelligence reports that the substance was being supplied by dealers from Niger, security agencies sent samples to the Department of Pharmacology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for urgent analysis.
The laboratory results from KNUST confirmed the extreme toxicity of the substance.
The chemical causes immediate structural damage to plastics and organic tissue.
In controlled tests, mice exposed to the chemical died within 48 hours.
Experts warn that human consumption of “Madala” is likely to cause irreversible internal organ damage or death.
Acting under the directive of the Regional Coordinator, Captain (Rtd) Kwame Jabari, operatives raided the market and took four suspects into custody, three females and one male.
The suspects are currently being held by National Security as investigations expand.
Authorities are now working to identify other points of sale and “raid the market” to remove all traces of the dangerous substance.
Alhaji Nje urged the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid purchasing unapproved chemicals or “miracle cures” from unauthorized vendors.
”These substances are harmful to human health. We will be launching public education campaigns to ensure our society is informed and protected from these lethal products,” Alhaji Nje stated.
