The Accra Regional Police Command has clarified that no arrests have been made in connection with the recent fire outbreak at the Accra Central Police Barracks, contrary to earlier reports suggesting that some individuals had been apprehended as investigations continue.
In an update issued on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the Command stated that reports indicating arrests had been effected were inaccurate and urged the public to disregard such claims.
According to the police, investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing, and authorities are yet to determine what triggered the incident.
The Command also disclosed that a fire officer sustained injuries while participating in efforts to contain the blaze.
The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded in the incident, the statement added.
The fire outbreak, which drew the attention of emergency responders and residents in the area, prompted a swift response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), supported by police officers and other emergency teams who worked to bring the situation under control and prevent further destruction.
The Accra Regional Police Command commended the efforts of the Ghana National Fire Service and all officers involved in managing the emergency, noting that their professionalism and dedication helped contain the fire and ensure the safety of residents and property within the barracks.
The statement was signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, who assured the public that any significant developments arising from the ongoing investigations would be communicated in due course.
Authorities have meanwhile urged the public to remain calm and rely on official updates as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak at the Accra Central Police Barracks.
