The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all its members across the country to actively participate in the nationwide General Cleaning Exercise scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, urging supporters to combine their civic duty with the party’s internal electoral process.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 9, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party encouraged members to fully support the sanitation campaign declared by President John Dramani Mahama.
The directive comes as the NPP prepares to hold its constituency executive elections on Saturday, July 11.
Acknowledging the potential clash between the two activities, the party advised members to participate in the clean-up exercise immediately after casting their ballots.
According to the statement, since voting in the constituency elections will be conducted on a walk-in basis, members are expected to vote first before joining sanitation activities in their respective communities.
“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party directs all members of the party to actively participate in the nationwide General Cleaning Exercise declared by the President,” the statement said.
The party stressed that taking part in the exercise reflects its commitment to environmental cleanliness, civic responsibility, and national development.
“The Party calls on all members to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to environmental sanitation, civic responsibility, and national development through their active participation,” the statement added.
The nationwide clean-up exercise forms part of government’s response to recent flooding incidents in several parts of the country, with citizens, businesses, institutions, political parties, and civil society organisations being encouraged to join efforts to clear drains, remove refuse, and improve sanitation in communities.
The NPP’s participation is expected to see party members across the country join local assemblies and residents in the two-day exercise while also proceeding with the party’s scheduled constituency elections.
