The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended the deadline for the filing of completed nomination forms for its 2026 National Officers Elections by two days.
The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) announced the extension in a statement issued on Friday, August 21, 2026, citing the significant level of interest in the upcoming elections.
Under the initial timetable, aspirants were expected to file their completed nomination forms from Sunday, August 23 to Thursday, August 27, 2026.
The filing period has now been extended to Saturday, August 29, 2026, giving aspirants additional time to submit their documents for processing and verification.
According to the NOEC, the decision was taken to facilitate an orderly filing process and ensure that every aspirant is given adequate opportunity to submit and have their nomination documents verified.
“As at the close of nominations activities on Thursday, 20th August 2026, being Day Four of the nomination period, forty-four (44) aspirants had picked up nomination forms,” the committee said.
It added that two days remained before the close of the period for picking up nomination forms at the time of the announcement.
The committee stressed that the extension of the filing period would not affect the subsequent stages of the election timetable.
Vetting of aspirants will therefore commence as originally scheduled on Monday, August 31, 2026, and run through Thursday, September 3.
The NOEC further announced that the results of the vetting process will be published on September 5, followed by the appeals period from September 6 to 7.
The National Executive Council/National Council meeting (NEC/NC) is scheduled for September 10, after which the Notice of Poll will be issued on September 14.
The election of the NPP’s national officers is scheduled to take place on October 3, 2026.
The revised timetable is as follows:
– August 17–22:Opening and closing of nominations
– August 23–29: Filing of nomination forms
– August 31–September 3: Vetting of aspirants
– September 5: Publication of vetting results
– September 6–7: Appeals
– September 10: NEC/NC
– September 14: Notice of Poll
– October 3: Election of National Officers
The NPP said the NOEC remains committed to conducting the elections in a manner that is “fair, transparent, orderly and credible.”
It also assured all aspirants of equal opportunity to participate fully in the process and appealed for the cooperation of aspirants, their supporters, party members and the media.

The statement was signed by the Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee, Hon. Frederick Opare-Ansah.
The 2026 national elections are expected to be a major internal exercise for the NPP as the party prepares to reorganise its leadership structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
