The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana “B”, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Mary Ewusi, over what he describes as “distasteful comments” directed at the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

Nana B in a Facebook post expressed outrage over remarks allegedly made by Madam Ewusi in response to Apostle Nyamekye’s concerns about the growing impact of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, on Ghana’s environment.

Addressing the Church’s 48th General Assembly, Apostle Nyamekye had lamented the worsening destruction of water bodies due to galamsey activities, warning that the pollution is now affecting the Church’s ability to perform traditional river baptisms an important religious practice.

However, Nana B claims that the Pentecost Chairman’s remarks were met with hostility from Madam Ewusi, whom he accuses of issuing threats and telling the respected cleric to “shut up or face the consequences.”

Describing the alleged comments as unacceptable, the NPP National Organiser argued that such a response reflects a broader attempt by the government to silence dissenting voices.

He further accused President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of fostering intolerance toward criticism.

“Mary Ewusi’s unprovoked attacks on no mean a person than the leader of the Church of Pentecost should be condemned by every well-meaning Ghanaian,” he stated.

Nana B is therefore demanding that President Mahama revoke Madam Ewusi’s appointment if he does not endorse her alleged comments.

He also called on the NDC to issue an unqualified apology to Apostle Nyamekye and the leadership of the Church.

The issue adds to the ongoing national debate over illegal mining, which continues to pose significant environmental challenges, particularly the pollution of rivers and water bodies across the country.
